Former State Lawmaker Found Liable for Wrongful Death of His Former Fiancé

A former Kentucky lawmaker was reportedly found liable for the wrongful death of his former fiancée , Amanda Ross, 29.

According to news reports, 60-year-old Stephen R. Nunn will be spending his lifetime in prison for killing Ross.

It could be remembered that previous reports claimed that Nunn pleaded guilty in the shooting and killing of Ross outside her townhouse in Lexington way back in 2011. Subsequently, he was charged with murder.

Aside from Nunn, the company managing the townhomes, Opera House Square, was also named in the said lawsuit for negligence along with Nunn’s daughter, Mary Elizabeth Nunn, who illegally transferred her father’s Glasgow property in her name to avoid Ross’ family from claiming it as damages in the civil lawsuit.

Incidentally, following the death of Ross, changes to domestic violence laws in Kentucky have been prompted. In fact, a law named after Ross’ first name, Amanda, was passed. The law allows domestic violence victims to be alerted by a GPS tracking system whenever their aggressors get too close.

At present, Nunn, who spent nearly 15 years in the state legislature, is imprisoned at the Green River Correctional Complex in Muhlenberg County.

Under the Kentucky law, former lawmakers are entitled to receive full state pension annually as they turn 62, provided that the recipient does not committed a crime while in office as a legislator. Apparently, Nunn is no longer eligible to receive his benefits after his conviction, explained by a Los Angeles injury lawyer

California Tow Driver Seriously Injured while Clearing Early Car Accident Wreck

tow truck driver
A tow truck driver suffered severe injuries after he was struck by a vehicle while he was clearing the wreck of an early car accident.

According to news reports, 59-year-old Richard Reeder of Santa Ynez, California was at the scene of a single rollover crash that occurred at about 9:25 in the morning last Thursday when the incident occurred.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that while Reeder was standing outside his truck, he was struck by a fast-approaching tractor trailer driven by Jose L. Vargas.

Initial investigation revealed that the said tractor trailer sideswiped a parked fire truck and then struck Reeder.

Apparently, the tractor trailer driver continued to drive southbound and was only stopped by the CHP officers.  Allegedly, the driver was unaware of the collision.

As a result of the collision, Reeder incurred fractures, cuts, and bruises. He was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital but was not listed in critical condition.

At present, the accident remains under investigation. However, authorities assured that alcohol and drugs were not a factor in this incident.

Incidentally, it can’t be avoided that said incident will be linked to a hit-and-run accident. However, a Los Angeles automobile accident attorney herein suggested that nobody can tell whether it was indeed a hit-and-run accident. The said attorney reasoned out that there are several instances wherein the driver of a vehicle is really unaware of an accident, particularly when a collision is too minor or does not have a strong impact. He likewise pointed to at Lindsay Lohan’s alleged hit-and-run incident in a Manhattan hotel as an example.

Budweiser Tycoon Settles Wrongful Death Lawsuit for $1.75 M

News reports revealed that the 46-year-old Budweiser tycoon, August Busch IV, recently agreed to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by the family of his former model girlfriend, Adrienne Martin, 27.

It could be remembered that Martin was found dead just before Christmas of 2010 in August’s bed inside his mansion. Based on the autopsy report, Martin died from taking a lethal mixture of cocaine and the painkiller, oxycodone. Moreover, a medical examiner concluded that there was no foul play and that the model voluntarily took the drugs. Therefore, no one was held accountable for her death.

Nevertheless, August, being concerned about the future of his former girlfriend’s son, Blake Martin, initially offered $1.5 million as settlement to the decedent’s family, particularly to Martin’s estranged husband, Dr. Kevin Martin, and her divorced parents, Larry Eby and Christine Trampler, who pressed the charges against him on behalf of Blake.

However, August’s initial offer did not materialize until both parties recently agreed to settle the lawsuit in the amount of $1.75 million, which the presiding judge approved.

According to the settlement agreement, $1.35 million of the said monetary relief will go to Blake while Martin’s parents will each receive $200,000.00, which will be put into Blake’s annual fund.

Meanwhile, August’s lawyer claimed that although the former chief of Anheuser-Busch beer empire agreed to settle the lawsuit for a generous amount, it does not necessarily mean that there was an admission of wrongdoing on their part.

August was the last member of his family to run the largest brewery in the world, the Anheuser-Busch, before it was sold to the Belgian brewer, InBev.

Apparently, just like the former chief’s previous lawsuit back in his early age, the current lawsuit that was supposedly scheduled on November 14 possesses no strong evidence to prove that there was a transgression that occurred.

Therefore, a Los Angeles wrongful death lawyer is pretty impressed with the tycoon for being affectionate to his former girlfriend’s surviving son despite the circumstances surrounding him and Martin’s family.

Kardashians’ Little Sister, Kendall Jenner, Spotted Driving Recklessly in LA Freeway

Photo owned by Eonline.
For several times, teen reality star and model Kendall Jenner was reportedly seen driving recklessly and texting while behind the wheel.

Recent reports claimed that a witness had photographed the 16-year-old half sister of the Kardashians texting while driving.

According to the witness, she was forced to get off the freeway upon seeing Jenner’s Range Rover dangerously swerving across lanes on the 405 freeway in the Calabasas area where the Jenners live.

The witness further claimed that despite her signals and warnings through her vehicle’s horn but Jenners simply gave her a dirty look and then sped off.

The disturbing photo obtained by the witness can be seen exclusively on Radar Online’s official web page.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that the teen driver was seen dangerously driving. Way back in August, another driver complained about Jenner’s reckless driving. The driver claimed that they were nearly sideswiped by the teen’s Range Rover.

Jenner’s Range Rover is a birthday present for her by her parents, Bruce and Kris Jenner. However, it seems that it is not a perfect gift for the teen socialite due to her bad driving behavior.

In California where the Jenners reside, drivers aged 18 and below are not allowed to use a cellphone even with a hands-free device, reminded a Los Angeles accident attorney.

Jenners is an American teenage model and reality TV star with several public event appearances. She is best-known for her appearance on her half-sisters’ reality TV show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Apparently, although Jenners is the most down to earth among her superstar siblings, she should still be reprimanded by her mom and manager, Kris Jenner, when it comes to her driving behavior.

Definitely, the stage mom doesn’t want her little daughter to follow the footsteps of some of Hollywood’s most dangerous celebrity drivers like Lindsay Lohan and Amanda Bynes.

California OKs Bill Allowing Immigrants to Secure Drivers’ License

On the last day of September, California Gov. Jerry Brown had brought some good news for young immigrants in the state.

During his last day to act on nearly a hundred bills sent by the State Legislature, Gov. Brown signed the bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to secure driver’s license that will automatically grant them with driving privileges within the state.

It was seen as good news by thousand of undocumented workers in the Golden State and by those who wish to land a job in the state. The bill had also cleared the ambiguity regarding the rules for issuing driver’s license to immigrants.

Incidentally, the approval of the said bill is in line with Obama’s recently announced program called ‘Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals’ which would grant temporary work permits and a temporary relief from possible deportation to undocumented young immigrants under certain conditions.

Subsequently, the bill titled AB2189 authored by Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, D-Los Angeles, would likewise allow those young immigrants who qualify for the Obama program to secure a driver’s license. Therefore, immigrants can now have a chance to drive and get a driver’s license, and car accident insurance in the State of California.

Aside from California, other states like Texas, Virginia, and Oregon have also settled the same issue a while ago. Meanwhile, Arizona and Nebraska have pledged not to issue driver’s license to anyone who benefits from the federal program.

Meanwhile, several California voters and county sheriffs opposed the bill for some reasons, while some Latino voters backed the same. It was also endorsed by few celebrity advocates like Martin Sheen and high community figures like Los Angeles Cardinal Roger Mohaney.

Previously, upon the introduction of the bill, issues including racial discrimination and inequality were raised by undocumented immigrants and advocates. In fact, a car accident attorney in Los Angeles had witnessed various disputes over the matter in the past few months. Therefore, he felt glad upon hearing the approval of the said bill since it will definitely resolve all the previous concerns of a lot of motorists.

Whitney Houston’s Daughter, Bobbi, and Boyfriend Smash Car

Whitney Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and her boyfriend were reportedly involved in a car accident in Georgia.

According to reports, sources close to Bobbi said that the incident happened last Sunday night in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Based on the initial investigation, Nick was driving his Camaro while Bobbi was on the passenger seat and accordingly, authorities were told that the couple had been arguing at the time of the accident.

Apparently, it was a single vehicle accident and no one was injured.

The incident was only discovered by the police when they went to the couple’s apartment for a noise complaint. According to police, no one answered the door. Nevertheless, the police saw Nick’s wrecked Camaro parked outside the apartment.

Upon closely examining the car, police saw that its front right tire was missing, the front bumper was torn off, and airbags were deployed while its hazard lights were on. Obviously, Nick still managed to drive it home despite its wrecked condition.

At present, further details regarding the incident is currently being investigated since other information surrounding the accident is not yet clear. Even calls to Bobbi’s party were not returned, according to news reports.

Based on recent studies, such vehicle accidents often result from a driver’s neglect or failure to obey the traffic safety rules and regulations. These violations include the following:

•    Driving under the influence of alcohol and other intoxicating substance
•    Distracted driving
•    Over-speeding
•    Running on red light
•    Disregarding traffic signs and warnings

Consequently, in order to avoid road misfortunes, it is best to avoid committing the above-said violations, suggested by a Los Angeles car accident attorney.

Study Says Elderly and Young Adults Equally Vulnerable on the Road

In a study conducted by U.K. researchers, it was revealed that what we believed to be the most prone to fatal accident drivers on the road (the elderly) are just equally vulnerable as drivers who are in their twenties.

According to the study led by Jonathan Rolison at the University of Plymouth in U.K., and published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, the risk of dying from driving was equal for other elderly drivers and young adults.

During the said study, researchers reviewed police records on all fatal road accidents that were reported from 1989 until 2009. Apparently, they discovered that out of 100 million road trips that end in fatality, thirteen were under the age of 29 while out of 100 million road trips, fourteen of them were over the age of 70.

In 2009, there were 1,138 vehicle accident fatalities recorded and based on research, one out of ten of all  those deaths were over the age of 70 while one out of four were  younger drivers. Apparently, elderly drivers can still be accounted for fewer vehicle accident deaths.

Either for drivers or passengers, risks are at their peak on both ends of the age range and lower among middle-aged drivers.

Also, researchers reviewed statistics for pedestrian accident deaths and discovered that the risk of being killed as a pedestrian was five times higher for elderly than for young adults.

In his statement, Rolison claimed that evaluating whether the elderly can drive is very important. However, the same eventually leads to driving policies that are getting tighter and stricter. Therefore, people are being distracted from the fact that the elderly are at risk as pedestrians.

Rolison further explained the when it rains, elderly drivers usually prefer to stay at home, while younger motorists wouldn’t mind going out to drive despite the inclement weather. Now, this is clearly an example why elderly people are regarded as ideal drivers.

Consequently, the study revealed that disputes over the ability of elderly drivers to safely drive are baseless and without merit since statistically, it was proven that elderly drivers’ ability to drive safely is not far different from the younger ones, commented by a Los Angeles injury attorney.
